Extra Traveller Hostel in Aqaba

Aqaba · Jordan

A family hostel, not a chain

Open since 2022, five minutes from the Red Sea, run by the same people who drive you to Wadi Rum.

Our story

It started as a spare few rooms and a lot of tea

Extra Traveller opened in 2022 as a small family business. Since then a few thousand travellers have come through, most of them on their way to Petra or Wadi Rum, plenty of them staying longer than they planned.

We are in the middle of Aqaba, minutes from the Red Sea coast, which makes this a sensible base for the whole south of Jordan. Snorkelling on the reef in the morning and the desert by evening is an ordinary day here.

The aim has not changed: a comfortable bed at a price that leaves money for the trip itself, and honest advice about how to spend it.

Inside Extra Traveller Hostel

What we care about

01

Hospitality that is not a script

Guests get treated like people staying in our house, because that is what this is. Local knowledge comes free and unprompted.

02

Tourism the town benefits from

Our guides, drivers and suppliers are from Aqaba and Wadi Rum. What you spend here mostly stays here.

03

Cheap, but not rough

Budget beds still mean clean sheets, hot water, working Wi-Fi and breakfast made in the morning rather than bought in a box.

Guest reviews

What people write afterwards

The place is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Anas is an excellent host — I also joined him for a tour in Aqaba, which I highly recommend. He can help you organize the rest of your trip in Jordan as well; for example, he booked a fantastic camp for me in Wadi Rum. He is very honest and always offers great value-for-money packages.

Very good location, staff is like family, they are very good people and helped me a lot. The hostel is shiny, very clean, very nice — you just feel yourself at home. I will be back again on my next trip. With them you can plan your journey: they know a lot of beautiful places, deserts, and places for diving in the Red Sea.

Amazing hostel! The owner is so, so kind. The breakfast is homemade every day and absolutely delicious — I almost never like hostel breakfasts. The Wi-Fi is also great, good enough to work remotely. Great location, and the Wadi Rum tour booked through them was awesome.
